Files and metadata

For each print edition, send the items below. Tick them off as you go; your ticks stay in this browser only.

How to send metadata

ONIX 3.0 feed Preferred

Carries bibliographic details, pricing and print specifications in one file per title.

CSV Also supported

If you can't produce ONIX, a CSV of the same metadata works too.

Before you export

Check supported trim sizes and print specs, and see how print cost and royalty are worked out.

Folder structure

Put everything under /incoming/, split into three folders.

  • incoming/
    • content/EPUB files and print-ready PDFs
    • covers/Cover images
    • metadata/ONIX 3.0 XML, one file per title
  1. Name files by ISBN, or another ID that is unique to each title, so we can match content, cover and metadata.
  2. Upload metadata last. We start ingesting a title when its metadata arrives, so the files need to be there first.
04 · Track

Processing and status

Each title moves through these folders, so you can see where it stands without asking us.

/incoming/

You upload here

/processing/

Being ingested now

/processed/

Ingested successfully

/failed/

Couldn't be ingested. A CSV lists the reason for each title.

  1. If a title lands in /failed/, open the CSV, fix what it lists, and upload the title to /incoming/ again.

Need something set up differently?

We can adapt the folder structure, metadata mapping, file naming or workflow to fit how you already work.
