Privacy Policy

Stck (stck.me) is a publishing and reading platform. Creators use Stck to write and publish stories, chat-fiction, and books; readers use Stck to read, collect, and buy them. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information when you use Stck’s services, including stck.me, Stck Books (our print-on-demand and global publisher distribution service), and Whisper (our AI character chat product). Capitalized terms not defined here have the meaning given to them in our Terms of Use. If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, you should not use the Service.

We collect information such as your username, first and last name, birthdate, phone number, profession, and email address when you register for a Stck account or correspond with us. We also collect:

We use this information to operate and maintain the Service, correspond with you, process your orders or payouts, and address issues you raise.

If you sign in to Stck through a third-party account (such as Google), that provider will share limited account information with us — for example, your name, email address, and a unique identifier — so we can create or log you into your Stck account. You can review and adjust what’s shared via that third party’s own privacy settings, and you can unlink your account from Stck at any time in your account settings.

We use analytics tools to measure traffic and usage trends on the Service — for example, which pages and stories are viewed, and how people navigate the site — so we can improve it. See our Cookies Policy for details and opt-out information.

We use cookies to keep you logged in, remember your preferences, and understand how the Service is used. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling them may affect some Service features. See our Cookies Policy for more detail.

Our servers automatically record log information such as your IP address, browser type, referring/exit pages, and how you interact with links on the Service.

If you access the Service through a mobile app, we may collect device identifiers (such as a UUID) to recognize your device and keep you logged in.

If you add a location to your profile, or if we infer an approximate location from your IP address, we use this to offer localized content (for example, currency, shipping options, or regionally relevant catalogues).

We use your activity on the Service — stories you read, collections you create, comments you write — to recommend content and improve the Service. For example, if you read and collect science-fiction serials, we may recommend similar stories.

If you’re accessing Stck from the EEA or UK, we process your personal data where:

(i) it’s necessary to provide the Service to you; (ii) it’s in our legitimate interests (e.g. improving the Service, preventing fraud); (iii) you’ve given consent; or (iv) it’s necessary to comply with our legal obligations.

You can withdraw consent at any time by emailing community@stck.me or via your account settings. Where we rely on legitimate interest, you have the right to object.

We don’t sell or rent your information to third parties outside Stck and its group companies without your consent, except as described below.

We share information with third parties who help us run the Service, including:

These providers only get the information they need to do their job, and are contractually bound to protect it and use it only for that purpose.

Stories and books you publish become visible to the public, subject to your privacy settings. If you remove published Content, copies may remain in cached pages or if other users have already saved them. You may also choose to share your Stck stories to social platforms; their own privacy policies apply once shared there.

If you publish through Stck Books, your catalogue metadata and relevant author/publisher business information is shared with our distribution partners (for example, HarperCollins India, IPG, Author Solutions, and regional POD/distribution partners) as needed to list, print, and distribute your books.

We may also share information where required by law or legal process; to protect against fraud or investigate misuse; where you’ve consented; or if you install a third-party app that connects to Stck (which is then governed by that app’s own privacy policy).

If Stck is acquired, merged, or its assets sold, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction; we’ll notify you by email and/or a notice on the Service.

We may share aggregated, anonymized data (stripped of anything identifying) with partners or the public — for example, industry benchmarking with publishers.

Your information is stored and processed in the United States, and other countries where Stck or its service providers operate. By using the Service, you understand your information may be transferred to and processed in a country whose data protection laws differ from your own.

Where we transfer your information to a provider outside the EEA/UK not covered by an adequacy decision, we require appropriate safeguards, such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information — including requiring a unique password to access your account. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we can’t guarantee absolute security. You’re responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential.

If information under our control is compromised in a security breach, we’ll investigate and, where appropriate, notify affected users and relevant authorities in accordance with applicable law.

Account settings. You can update your account information anytime by logging in and editing your profile. You can unsubscribe from promotional emails via the link in those emails. You cannot opt out of Service-related emails (billing, security, order confirmations) but can object by emailing community@stck.me.

EEA/UK rights. You can request a copy of your data, correction of inaccuracies, deletion or restriction, a portable copy, or object to our processing — email community@stck.me. We may be unable to fulfil some requests (e.g. where it would infringe another user’s rights, or where we’re legally required to retain the data).

Whisper conversation deletion. You can delete individual Whisper conversation histories from your account settings; deletion removes them from our systems within 30 days.

We retain your profile information and Content for as long as you have an account, and for a commercially reasonable period after, to comply with legal/audit obligations and for backup purposes. Publisher and payout records are retained as required by tax and financial regulations in the relevant jurisdictions. To permanently delete your account and associated data, email support@stck.me from your registered email address; we’ll process the request after verification.

Stck does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16, and the Service is not directed at children under 16. If we learn we’ve collected data from a child under the applicable minimum age without appropriate consent, we’ll delete it promptly. Contact community@stck.me if you believe we may have such information.

We aren’t responsible for the practices of third-party sites linked from Stck, including our distribution and retail partners’ own storefronts. Their privacy policies govern your use of their services.

California users have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA). Stck does not sell personal information as defined under the CCPA/CPRA.

California (and, depending on where you live, residents of other states with comprehensive privacy laws such as Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, or similar) may have the right to:
